Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday voiced strong support for the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, calling it a transformative step that would accelerate India’s development and significantly reduce election-related expenditure.

Speaking at a marathon held in Gurugram to promote the initiative, CM Saini said, “This is not just a marathon but a movement—a public resolution for national change. Frequent elections halt progress and disrupt the momentum of governance.”

Saini added that the concept embodies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of efficient governance and strengthened democratic engagement. “The Prime Minister’s goal of making India a developed nation can be realised faster through simultaneous elections,” he said.

Highlighting the impact of the ongoing election season, CM Saini noted that Haryana has been in election mode since April 13, causing administrative delays and slowing down development work. “With One Nation, One Election, we will save time, money, and effort—resources that can be better directed towards growth,” he remarked.

He emphasised that the initiative goes beyond administrative convenience and aims to deepen democratic awareness across the nation.

The marathon event was intended to symbolise unity and public support for synchronised elections. “This is an important step towards national transformation,” Saini declared.

The Constitution Amendment Bill proposing the One Nation, One Election model is currently under review by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). It seeks to align the election cycles of the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, a move seen by proponents as crucial to streamlining governance and policy continuity.
